Participants: IRTA
Institute of agrifood research and technology
IRTA is a research institute owned by the Government of Catalonia ascribed to the Department of Agriculture.
IRTA’s purpose is to contribute to the modernization, competitiveness and sustainable development of agriculture, food and aquaculture sectors, the supply of healthy and quality foods for consumers and, generally, improving the welfare of the population.
In LIFE MIDMACC, IRTA coordinates the design of the adaptation measures based in transforming scrublands into vineyards in the mid-mountain and in evaluating agronomic practices as measures of adaptation to Climate Change in long standing vineyards. IRTA takes also care of implementing and monitoring these measures in Catalonia. IRTA collaborates in establishing regional committees in Catalonia and La Rioja, in designing the adaptation measures for vineyards, and in producing and delivering information to upscale adaptation measures to a regional level. Finally, IRTA supports the preparation of the Integrated Climate Change Adaptation Guidelines in the mid-mountain areas, and is responsible of the estimation of the implementation costs and economic viability analysis of the pilot experiences for replicability.
